Adrenaline quencher: Volcano boarding is a newly discovered activity for those who are frankly a bit board from your conventional snowboarding/ wakeboarding.. you name it activity. It speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. It’s hot, dusty, a little scary — and crazy enough to be fun.

Preface: Youngest volcano in Central America, errupted over 20 times since 1850. How bad do you want to go on it now? – for those who said no.. you’re missing out on the beauty of throwing your life away to fullfill a quite risky activity, for those of you who said yes- you make me proud…

Besides my obvious interest in cars, politics, music, and poetry… art is another something clsoe to heart

I personally prefer abstract art than intricate detailed or landscape art. Picasso manifested his complex imagery into his canvas’s making his art wrok appreciated by many.

In the main, Picasso only got better. That’s the take-away from the staggering exhibition of Picasso’s late paintings and prints at the Gagosian Gallery.

One of the best shows to be seen in New York since the turn of the century, it proves that contrary to decades of received opinion, Picasso didn’t skitter irretrievably into an abyss of kitsch, incoherence or irrelevance after this or that high-water mark.

The 50 paintings and 49 prints on view demonstrate that in the decade preceding his death in 1973 at 91, Picasso painted, as usual, for his life. But his life was drawing to a close, and pressure was mounting. He diverted it into paintings whose emotional rawness, physical immediacy and often wicked pictorial joyfulness were not quite like anything he had made before. They may not have changed the course of art, but give them time. First they deserve their due.

This is not the first big exhibition of late Picasso. But it may come at an unusually receptive time, when art is wide open, and the understanding of what it takes to be an artist has gotten a bit fuzzy around the edges. Or perhaps this show represents an unusually rigorous sampling of the last decade, having been chosen by John Richardson, Picasso’s formidable biographer, and superbly installed by him in the elegant, austere, sky-lighted galleries in Gagosian’s West 21st Street space in Chelsea.

شيكاغو”- علاء الأسواني”

شيكاجو.. هل هى مجرد مدينة على أرض الأحلام أم مكان يعج بالبشر من كل الأجناس المختلفة.. أم عالم ملئ بالأحداث السياسية والعاطفية والإجتماعية صبه المؤلف فى قالب هذا الكتاب؟! أياً كانت الإجابة على هذا التساؤل فها هى رواية علاء الأسوانى وكعادته هى ليست مجرد رواية ولكنها حياة مليئة بالبشر.. فتاة تعدت الثلاثين وطارت إلى هذه المدينة.. شباب حياتهم بين الحب والسياسة والغربة.. رجال يجرفهم الحنين إلى الماضى وأرض الوطن .. نساء يعيشن فى عالم خاص بهن وغيرهم من البشر والحكايات الكثير، والعامل المشترك بينهم أنهم على أرض واحدة تسمى” شيكاجو” كتبها بل أبدعها المؤلف كما أبدع من قبلها ” عمارة يعقوبيان” خرجت بمذاق مختلف وطابع فريد مميز لها كسائر أعماله وأنت عزيزى القارئ تنجرف مع تيار سطورها لا تملك حيالها إلا القراءة والمتعة والتفكير ثم التصفيق إحتراماً وتقديراً لموهبة حقيقة تختفى وراء هذه الصفحات

الغربة الأولى”- عبدالله حمد المعجل”

يروي الكتاب على مدى 352 صفحة قصة تحول الجبيل كقرية خليجية بالساحل الشرقي من المملكة العربية السعودية من الحياة البدائية التي كان يعتمد أبناؤها على صيد المسك أو الغوص في مواعيد محددة للبحث عن اللؤلؤ.. إلى ظهور النفط وقيام الشركات المنقبة والمستخرجة والمكررة والناقلة له. وانتقال أبناء تلك القرية للعمل في الشركات وما نتج عنها من تجمعات عمالية بدأ الوعي والبحث عن المعرفة والمطالبة بتحسين أوضاعهم ينتشر بينهم، وما تقوم به الشركات من اضطهاد وقهر لهم، ورفض لمطلبهم، وبالتالي الزج ببعضهم بالسجون.. ونجد الناشر يقول في تعريفه لهذا العمل . عالم يختلط فيه الواقع بالخيال ينقلنا المؤلف عبر أحداث فترة تاريخية إبان مرحلة التحول الكبيرة الذي شهدته المنطقة اثناء فترة الحرب العالمية امتداداً حتى حرب الـ 48، وقيام إسرائيل وتهجير الفلسطينيين، وظهور الحركات العمالية، وبداية تكوين المشروع القومي الحديث. هي أحداث منطلقة من تجربة قرية الجبيل إلا أنها يمكن أن تنطبق على أية قرية خليجية أخرى.
