It’s been a while since I’ve gone out with my camera for the sake of taking pictures. Last Wednesday, my cousin called me up and asked if I’d be free to brave out the heat and go out early Friday morning to take pictures by Souq Sharq’s waterfront. I was all up for it considering how much I’ve been neglecting my camera.

We were out of the house by 7 am in the morning, and pleasantly surprised to find that the weather was very tolerable. The water was beautiful, and while taking pictures all I could think of is how awesome the chaleh would be right now! After spending around 3o minutes out on the pier and getting the shots we want, we headed to Prime and Toasts (best breakfast in Kuwait).

One thing i realized: I definitely need to use my camera more often and learn more techniques!

The video left me speechless. There is no need to say anything else.

This video was shot just before Khaled Alfadala was taken in. His words should be motivate all Kuwaitis to stand up for their rights! Do not stand silently while Kuwait corrupts away!

The Washington Post featured an article about Mohammed AlJassem’s case stating some valid points that many tend to overlook. Whenever people discuss people’s rights in the Middle East, their focus are on the bigger issues that occur in places like Saudi Arabia or Egypt, forgetting to shed light on smaller problems. For a country that boasts about its continuous improvement in human right issues, Kuwait is still willing to incriminate people for voicing their opinions. We believe that freedom of speech without fear of prosecution is the primary element in human rights, and without it, we have made no real progress in what we hope to achieve

In order to remain sane and entertained after moving back from the States, I decided to rediscover Kuwait. I can no longer just go to work and bum around. After reading about Sidekick Academy on 4thing Ring Road and Ansam’s blog, I decided the first thing on my quest is to check out their Be-Safe Program. Sidekick Academy is run by Abdulmohsen Albabtain, who has been into martial arts for over fifteen years. I had a chance to speak to him before the class started, and right away I could tell that he’s a guy with a vision for martial arts in Kuwait. You could tell that he really cared about his passion and wants to improve the quality of training in Kuwait.

Abdulmohsen gave me a quick tour of their new studio. My first impression was, “Wow! It’s huge!” I didn’t expect it to be this big! I was informed that it was not completely ready, as they were still waiting for their mats and punching bags to be delivered. However, even without it being completely ready, the place was great! Spacious and clean!

As for the class, it was so much fun! It’s been awhile since I had this much fun working out! I was told since the class was mostly beginners with a low fitness level, the first half of the class was to build endurance and the second half would be to learn self defense techniques:  a few laps, a light ab workout, some pushups, and ending with punching and kicking techniques.

I highly recommend both guys and girls to check out this place as an alternative to the gym, at least as a start to get you moving! I am definitely going back for more!

I officially kicked off the summer this weekend. Headed out to my cousin’s chaleh to spend Friday swimming and lounging around the pool. It felt good to get away from the city and change the weekend routine I have had for the last two months! Great weather, good company, and amazing yummy chaleh food! Can’t wait for more to come!

By the way, if anyone is looking for amazing burgers to barbecue at home, don’t think twice about calling Prime Cuts.  I consider their burgers to be one of the best burgers I have had! I have yet to try their steaks and bbq beef ribs, but I have heard they are really good!

These days the sky around sunset is always so beautiful. Usually I would be in my car or somewhere I don’t have access to my camera. Despite having to use my blackberry camera, I had to share this picture of the sun hiding behind a cloud. It looks like an atomic bomb blew up!
